Finishes My Socks

I participated in the Knit Purl Hunter's KAL. I was trying to get them done before the 15th of February so I could enter for prizes. But wasn't able to complete them in time. They are done now. Just in time for the next KAL.

Time Flies

Where has the time gone? I haven't blogged in quite sometime. I think this is due to my ever so crazy decision to coach my eleven year old son's basketball team. First off let me just say when I signed up for this task I knew what was involved, however, I knew very little about basketball.

Correction, I knew you throw the ball and try to make it into the hoop. That's it. Well on day one of practice you know how many of the boys on the team knew more than me?

All nine.

I had a very gracious dad volunteer to help me when he was not working. This dad as it turns out is like the Larry Bird of basketball (except not as tall) compared to me. I think this basketball season I have learned more about basketball then everyone else on the team. Not bad for the head coach! Its a lot of fun to coach and watch these boys learn and be a part of their basketball experience.

With all of this I did have a few minutes to squeeze in a couple small projects. I belong to the Emerald Valley Quilters Guild here in Eugene. Each month we have a block of the month challenge. Any one who would like can participate. You make the block(s) per directions and submit it. For each lock made your name goes in the drawing. If your name is picked you win all of the blocks. Its pretty neat really. So far I have won the challenge three times. Its a good way to learn a new skill. That is what I did with February's challenge. It was paper pieced hearts. I made both blocks.

It took me four tries with each of them to get it, but not bad for my first paper pieced project.  I was all set to enter them into the contest, but I wasn't able to make the meeting at the last minute. Bummer. My friend suggested I make a nice wall hanging. So eventually that is what this will be.

My darling sister Emily crocheted me a present yesterday.

Its the cutest thing.

Well I must sign off now. Have to be at work soon.

I recently purchased a new knitting book at my local Barnes and Noble. I am totally in love with this book.

They have taken the 20 most popular knitting patterns from the last 5 years of their magazine and they are in this book. There isn't a pattern in this book I don't want to knit for myself. If only I had more time.
I am currently working on the Phiaro Scarf from the book. I am using acrylic yarn as the intention is to give it away as a gift.

The pattern seems fairly simple its worked in the round  and then you bind off, the stitches are dropped during bind off which makes me a little nervous. I am about two inches into it.

If this goes well my plan is to make another one for me with a more variegated yarn.

I give this book 5 stars. I would be great as a gift for the knitter in your life or just as a gift for yourself.

The new obsession

In September I decided I was going to try and hand make all of the Christmas gifts I give out this year (with the exception of a few gifts for the kids). I racked my brain as to what I could make for everyone that is doable before Christmas. I decided I could make cards. I would make some for each special occasion and put them in a pretty box and tie a pretty bow. Easy right? Well, here it is Thanksgiving and I have become obsessed with card making. I have so many more to make in order to complete my projects. But I am in love with so many cards I find on line. They is wonderful inspiration there, talent. I am very jealous of people with talent. Here are some of the cards I have made.
